Well it is the end of week 3 and things are going great! I know that those of you who do not know me personally may not understand how big of a deal that is. You see, for my entire life I have always had the kind of metabolism that would melt the weight right off of me if I just tried a little bit. I actually lost 30 pounds in a month about 5 years ago. Its is amazing to me how things can change so quickly. While I was still using the weight loss supplement that I was taking at the time I lost the 30 pounds in a month I suddenly quit losing weight for seemingly no reason. I could not lose one pound in a month. What happened? Though I’m not entirely certain, I think the thing that happened was that my 45 year old body decided to change. My metabolism slowed down.

I eventually gave up for a time. Kind of a long time. At least a few years. Then, as my weight started creeping back up I decided to try another weight loss supplement. Many people in my local area were having great success with this product. So, not knowing what was actually going on in my body, I took these products a few months and once again….no weight loss.

Again I gave up. I really had decided to give up forever. Not a good place to be. Less than two years after making that decision my weight climbed to 355 pounds. Thats right, at the age of 50 I weighed in at 355 pounds. So I started researching different options. This may be my last time of trying to get my health and weight under control. I am excited to say that I AM DOING THIS! I AM ACTUALLY LOSING WEIGHT!!! I found something I can do, and it is actually working for me. I needed to tell you the background so that you would understand why I am excited about the weight loss I have experienced for the last 3 weeks.

So, yesterday I turned 51 years old but 10 pounds lighter! YAY! Lol.

Weigh-in for Feb 10

First let me say that I did not start this plant-based-diet for the specific purpose of losing weight, but I would be a fool to think that changing to this kind of diet would not impact my weight. Also, please don’t look at my results as far as weightloss goes and think that your results will be the same. I will be 51 years old in a few days. My metabolism has slowed way down. My body does not react to diets the way that it did once upon a time. Did I mention that I am not sticking to the plan on Saturdays. At least not at this time. Saturday will be a cheat day. So keep these things in mind please.

Here are my second week results. I am down a total of 7 pounds. I need to let you know that I never pay any attention to the number to the right of the decimal on my scale. I figure at 350 pounds that number is really irrelevant lol.

A Recipe I Promised and a Seasoning Suggestion

Hello everyone! Thanks for taking the time to read this short update. The plant based diet I’m on is going great. I haven’t been on the scale this week, but I must say that I already feel so much better regardless if I have lost weight this week or not. I promised you a couple of weeks ago that I would share with you some ideas on how I’m eating now. I must first tell you that I have never been a big plant eater. Mainly because of some belief systems I have been taught about food. I really won’t go into that today, maybe a later update I’ll share some of the myths I believed to be fact. For now, I want to share with you a plant-based dish that I have been trying different things with over the last two weeks. It is something I really like, it is really easy to fix, and it is VERY healthy. In the picture below is the very dish I am referring to, and I slaved (WINK WINK) over a hot rice cooker all day. Actually, it only took 15 minutes of prep-time and then 2 seconds to turn on the rice cooker.

So, what was in this soup/not soup thing I made? Well here’s is the list:

  1. One cup of brown rice
  2. Two large carrots chopped
  3. One purple onion diced
  4. Four celery stalks chopped
  5. One can of diced tomatoes
  6. Three potatoes chopped into half inch’ish squares
  7. Three garlic cloves
  8. Carmalete’s Seasoning
  9. About 6 cups of water. Put it all in the rice cooker and let her rip!

I change this up everytime I cook it. Sometimes I’ll add beans, or maybe Bok Choy, or who knows what. Also, I eat this often throughout the week.

Weight Update 2-2-19

Though it hasn’t been a week yet, I wanted to update you on my weight loss. Why? Because over the last 5 or 6 years I have tried several things to lose weight without success. From KETO and Atkins to Protien shakes and Green shake(nastiness lol).

I have been considering going to a full-blown plant-based diet for several months now. I have been doing my own research on it for awhile and couldn’t quite make up my mind. Then I rented this video from Amazon that knocked me off of the fence and I have now taken the plunge. I want you to take the time this weekend to watch this video. It will challenge you. I have also lost 32 pounds so far. Yes, I know that these are not earth shattering numbers, BUT….I have done this without taking stimulants, vitamins, potions, meal replacement shakes, eating salads, counting calories, exercising, or any of the other traditional stuff that is usually associated with “dieting”.

I Lost 6 Pounds In Only 5 Days

Yep, it’s true! 6 Pounds in 5 days this past week. No lie, no kidding around! But, before I get into how, let me explain what has distracted me from my weight loss over the last few weeks.

If you’ve been following my weight loss journey you know that it’s been a little while since I have posted anything about my weight loss. The reason being is that when I stopped using the AdvoCare products and decided to do this by eating in such a way that has helped me shed fat FAST, I ended up taking a few days off of the diet because we were about to go on vacation. You know how hard it is to diet while vacationing! Well that was the plan anyway, but the night we left for our family vacation my 86 year old dad ended up in the hospital with a ruptured appendix. According to my sister he seemed fine, so we continued with our vacation for a couple of days.

Around the third day dad was not recovering so we decided to cut our vacation a few days short and began driving home. While enroute home I began having pains in my left lower abdomen. I ignored it as long as I could, but eventually I told my wife and kids that I needed to find a hospital. We found one, and low and behold I had kidney stones that were trying to vacate the premises. After a few hours in an out-of-state hospital (and some good IV painkillers) I got to ride the rest of the way home while my lovely wife drove.

Well we finally arrive home only to find out that dad is doing tremendously better. So much better that they decide to move him to rehab shortly after our return. So between a mini-vacation  and dad’s issues among so much other stuff going on in my life I decided until everything settled down before trying to start back up with my diet.

Well I finally got started this past Monday and determined in my heart and head that I was gonna stick to it. So I made it through week one. Now I want you to keep in mind that at this point in my weight loss journey I am only working my program Monday thru Friday. We have Sabbath Services in our home on Saturdays and everyone brings a covered dish. Yeah, I ain’t even trying to be good on Saturday. Then on Sunday is usually our Family Feast Day where my local clan all get together and cook and eat and visit. You guessed it, I ain’t even trying to be good on that day either.

So, Mon-Fri it is for me. At least for now anyway. I know that as I continue to lose weight I will probably come to a point in my journey where I will need to be more careful on the weekends as well. When that time comes (if it comes) I will do what is needed in order to get down to my goal weight.

You may be asking what my goal weight is, and if you are new to my website you may also be wondering how I plan on getting there. First off my goal weight at the moment is 250. I currently weight (as of my last weigh-in on Friday) 331 pounds. I started at 357 in May 2017. As for how I am doing it just keep reading.

Let me start by saying that I am a tow truck driver. I am not a nutritionist, nor am I a doctor. I am not qualified in any way to tell you that how I am losing weight is a good way for you to lose weight. I am not even saying that I know it is healthy. All the information I give you on my website is purely my experience and me sharing with you how it helps me, and how I feel through it all. If you decide to pursue this type of weight loss program, I HIGHLY suggest that you talk it over with a medical professional….do not just take the word of a tow truck driver. PLEASE!

Ok, now that all the preliminary stuff is out of the way let us move on. Here is what I am doing. It is basically a modified Adkins Diet. If you have never read it go ahead and get a copy of it HERE! If you have read it, then you pretty much know how it goes. Though he took much criticism for his approach to weight loss while he was alive, he is now revered as a pioneer in the much medical field as far as health and human nutrition are concerned. Many are now saying that his concept was groundbreaking and that he was WAY ahead of his time in terms of what it really means to eat healthy.

I am currently 49 years old. I have seen so many programs come and go in my life. I won’t even waste my time trying to name them. I’ve seen everything from low-fat/no-fat diets to counting calories, and even horribly extreme things like weighing your food/weighing your excrement or even purging. In some of the most extreme cases I have even heard of people purposely infecting themselves with tapeworms in order to lose weight. Are you grossed out yet?

Well don’t leave just yet because I am not going to suggest you try any of these! What I will share with you is for me, the easiest way that this fat man has ever lost weight. It is really simple. Here it is in a nutshell. I am following a low to no carb, high fat, moderate protein diet. That’s it! I eat as much as I want. I eat until I’m stuffed if that is what I want to do. And the weight falls off. The really fantastic thing about it is this, I never feel lethargic. I don’t get winded just walking to the mailbox. I’m seldom hungry, but when I do get hungry I am free to grab a snack whenever I want it, as long as it is low-no carbs. Now, there is way more info on eating this way. There is no way that a simple short blog post can do it justice. Here is what I want you to do. Diabetes, dementia, heart disease and much, much more.  A very close friend of mine has even been able to stop taking his diabetes medication after only a few weeks of being on this diet. Where Do I Go From Here? The Next Phase Of My Weight Loss

Back around 2005 to 2006 I had reached a new high in my weight. I had gone to the doctor for an unrelated issue, and as usual the office staff took my vital signs before sending me to an examination to wait for the Doctor to come in and see me. My blood pressure was a perfect 120/70 and it normally is even to this day. My temp was fine. My respirations were normal. My weight was…..well…it wasn’t that great for someone 35 years old and 6ft 1inch tall. I had hit a new high in my weight. I was now at a whopping 335 lbs.

I knew that my pants had been starting to fit a little more snug to the point I was needing to go up one size, but I had no idea it was this bad. You see, just a couple of months before this I had weighed on that same scale and I was only 312. How did my weight climb so quickly??? Well, I never found the answer to this question. My Doctor came in checked me out. Listened to what was going on at the time. Told me what to do to fix it, then began to scold me about my weight. I shrugged it off, but when I got home and told my wife about my weight gain she began telling me about this diet.

Long story short it all sounded great to me. So much so that I began to wonder if it would really work. Why? Because everything about it sounded like something I could do. It was simple. Not a lot of extra stuff for us to buy, and it was something that I could fit into my job at the time. I was a truck driver in those days and I did quite a bit of sitting as well as eating a ton of junk food from the truck stops. Normally my food intake came from a hotbox in a gas station with the occasional burger and fries from the Golden Arches. Are you kinda getting a mental picture of why I was so big?

So, we purchased this book that she had heard about and she began telling me how it all worked. Now to say it was all easy would be a lie, BUT it was the easiest thing I had ever done to lose weight. I started making the changes to my diet that I needed to make. At first it was really just a matter of changing a few habits that were indicative to my work environment, but these habits really would not be too hard to change if I had a normal job at home like most folks have. Being on the road for weeks at a time makes for some difficulty in eating habits, but I did manage to make the changes. The only other hurdle for me was learning what types of foods I could eat from gas station shelves if and when I were in a situation where I needed to just find something to get me by until I could stop somewhere and buy real groceries. Once these challenges were me it was all downhill from there.

It was not long before I started losing weight. Honestly it was just a couple of days before I began to feel different. There were things going on in my body need not be discussed here, but yeah, strange things happening. Good things I later realized, but strange nonetheless.

Now I don’t really remember how much weight I lost the first week, month or any other time frame, but what I do remember is how much I lost in the 5 months I was doing this diet. In five months time I went from 330 pounds to somewhere in the 250’s. Sorry I don’t recall the exact number.


When I first started this diet there was an initial phase, a program of eating certain types of foods that got your body working for you and kickstarted your weight loss. Well let me tell you, it did just that! I literally thought that when I was sweating that my body was sweating pure fat. I know it wasn’t, but I just couldn’t figure out how I was losing so  much weight if that wasn’t what was happening.

After a few weeks of that you were supposed to go on to another phase of the diet that was more for maintaining your weight. I wasn’t at all interested in going to that phase after just a few weeks, so I opted to stay on phase 1 for awhile longer.

Somewhere around 280 pounds and probably about 3 months into the plan I decided to go to the maintenance phase. To my surprise I continued to lose weight. I couldn’t believe I was losing this much weight at the rate I was still losing. You see, on the maintenance side of this plan you get to add back some things that you had done away with in the beginning. It had become “easier” to lose the weight because I could have certain foods again. No counting calories, no weighing food, no taking handfuls of supplements everyday. Just simple eating. THAT’S IT!

So, why did I quit if it was such a great way to lose weight? You’re gonna think I’m crazy, and you just might be correct. After a couple of months of eating the way I was completely comfortable with, I began to think that there must be something wrong with me. Seriously, I thought I was sick, because there was no way that I should be losing weight this fast eating the way I’m eating. In my mind it just wasn’t possible. So instead of going to the Doctor to get things checked out, I did the more sensible thing(sarcasm). I went right back to my old ways of eating….and…never…looked…..back.

What a fool I was to do this. Was it something I really wanted to do deep down? Maybe, but I don’t think so. As crazy as it sounds, I felt I was actually eating in such a way that I could make it a lifestyle. But I sabotaged myself. It was as if I was afraid to lose any more weight. I blew it! All that weight came back in just a few months. In the years following I gained back more. If you have been following my progress on this weightloss blog, you know that my weight got up to nearly 360 pounds recently. Well, I’m back down into the 330’s thanks to using Advocare, but from this point on I am returning to a healthy lifestyle I found years ago.

What is this “healthy lifestyle” I’m talking about? It has nothing to do with prescription drugs, support groups, meetings, fistfuls of supplements, magic pills, potions, elixirs, or any other nonsense that only covers the symptoms and doesn’t address the problem. There is only one way to truly deal with obesity, and that is to eat the way God designed your body to eat. Anything less than a healthy lifestyle is not going to be a lasting fix. YOU MUST CHANGE for your body to change. That is the only thing that will be permanent!

Before I tell you how I was able to lose so much weight so fast by only changing a couple of things in my diet, let me explain something to you. I am in no way promoting a single product. I will share with you this book, but there is so much more to it than what the book covers. There is a ton of new information on the subject matter of the book. Honestly, the author of the book was actually a pioneer of something that has gone from being criticized by the medical field to being researched by many in the medical field and by our own government.
